Medigap Plan C — Comprehensive Medicare Supplement Coverage for Pre-2020 Enrollees
If you became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020, Medigap Plan C may still be available to you. Plan C was one of the most comprehensive Medigap plans available — similar to Plan G but with one key difference. What Does Medigap Plan C Cover?
Medigap Plan C includes the following benefits:
- ✅ Part A hospital coinsurance — up to 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are exhausted
- ✅ Part A deductible — covers the $1,736 Part A inpatient deductible in 2026
- ✅ Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
- ✅ Part B coinsurance or copayment — covers your 20% share of outpatient costs
- ✅ Part B deductible — covers the $257 Part B deductible in 2026
- ✅ Part B preventive care coinsurance
- ✅ Skilled nursing facility coinsurance¹
- ✅ First three pints of blood
- ✅ Foreign travel emergency coverage
- ❌ Part B excess charges — not covered
¹ Skilled Nursing Facility coverage requires you to meet Medicare’s requirements — including a prior hospital stay of at least 3 days and admission to a Medicare-approved facility within 30 days of leaving the hospital. A benefit period begins on the first day you receive inpatient hospital services and ends after you have been out of the hospital and have not received skilled care in any other facility for 60 consecutive days.
Important — Plan C Availability
As of January 1, 2020, Medigap Plan C is no longer available to newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries. Federal law prohibits the sale of Medigap plans that cover the Part B deductible to anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020.
If you became eligible before that date, you may still be able to purchase or switch to Plan C. If you became eligible after January 1, 2020, Plan G is the most comparable option available to you.
